City of Peace

City of Peace

Here is the long overdue newsletter for December.
This coming Sunday (17 December 2006) we have a Christmas service followed by a lunch. Everyone is welcome. Please get in contact with Lynne or Michelle to get your tickets for the lunch. Need to get your tickets in advance so that they know how many people will be there. It costs £2 per adult. Children do not have to pay.

Housegroup: Last housegroup for the year is on the 19th at the Orange room. Contact Henk B for travel details.

If you are free on the 13th of December, can you please come and help with setting up the Christmas Market stalls at the Cafe. COP also has a stall. Contact Heather if you would like to contribute.

Just a quick update on what is happening in City of Peace in October.

Tomorrow morning (06/10/2006) there will be a prayer meeting at the Cafe at 06:30. Yes, that is correct. It is in the morning. Breakfast will be provided afterwards, so that you can go to work from there.

This month @ City of Peace--July

New Website and Blog--We are in the midst of creating a website for City of Peace, which will be completed soon. We'll provide more information in the days to come. Also, we have a blog that provides pictures of recent events along with this monthly update. Check it out at www.cityofpeacecc.blogspot.com

Opportunities to Serve--We are still looking for a little help around City of Peace. If you are looking for a way to plug into City of Peace and want to help out, please consider helping in the following ways.

Sunday Morning Set-up—If you would like to come a bit early, we could use a couple helping hands to tidy-up, set up chairs and do anything else that needs to be done before the service. Contact Henk V. if you are interested.

Sunday Morning Coffee Rota—If you are not on the rota for helping out with teas and coffees and would like to be, please let us know. Contact Karen B. if you are interested.

Sunday School--The Sunday School hour, which is held immediately following the service, needs helpers to assist the Sunday School Teachers. Contact Marlene B. if you are interested.

House Group on Tuesday Nights at 7:15pm
At House Group we take some extended time to fellowship and study the Bible together. Here is a schedule of the topics we will cover over the next month. We are continuing a study on the psalms, which we started in June.

July 4--We will be studying psalms 14&16.
July 11--We will be studying psalm 18.
July 18--We will be studying psalm 19.
July 25--Jazz Night

As usual we will be meeting at the Bouma's (270A Manchester Rd). A meal is provided before the study, so come hungry!

Friday Prayer Meeting on the 7th of July
Please join us at the Cafe at 6:30 am. (that’s right, in the morning) for our monthly prayer meeting to pray over individual, community and world issues and concerns. We also take some time to eat some breakfast afterwards.

The Lord’s Supper on the 16th of July
Communion will be served on the 16th of July at our Sunday morning meeting. Please mark your calendars. Again, I’m including Paul’s words as something for you to consider as you come that day.

1 Corinthians 11:27-29 27 Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. 28 A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup. 29 For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself.

Cafe Jumble Sale on the 22nd of July
Cafe Forever will be holding a Jumble sale on July 22nd. If you have items that you would like to give away please see Henk V. or Marlene Botha. Also, Please talk to Marlene of Henk if you would like to help out at the Jumble sale.

Church Picnic on 23rd of July
Following the service on July 23rd there will be a church picnic, so be sure to invite your friends.
Jazz Night on the 25th of July at 7:30pm
In order to say goodbye to Tom and Ashley and Peter and Karen, City of Peace church on the Isle of Dogs has organised a Jazz evening.The Nat Hayward Quartet will be playing with the following line-up:
Piano: Nathan Hayward
Double base: Ray Samuels
Drums: Steve Plum
Saxes: Martin Richards.

this month @ City of Peace--June

Opportunities to Serve--We could always use a little help around City of Peace. If you are looking for a way to plug into City of Peace and want to help out, please consider helping in the following ways.

· Writing Monthly E-newsletter (what you are reading)—If you haven’t heard, Ashley and I will be leaving on July 31st for Florida where I’ll be working at a church as an assistant pastor. I need someone to replace me to write this monthly update.

· Updating the Church Blog—We could also use a person to update this new blog. It would be helpful if they could be responsible in taking some pictures at our bigger events to post them as well.

So, here are the things you need to look out for this month:

Khaled Bouma will be baptized at our Sunday Meeting (11:00am), so please join us for this very special day.

This Month @ City of Peace

Here are the things you need to look out for this month:

House Group on Tuesday Nights at 7:15pm
At House Group we take some extended time to fellowship and study the Bible together. Here is a schedule of the topics we will cover over the next month.

May 2—Conclusion to Nehemiah. We will also be looking at Jeremiah 29 & 30.

After Nehemiah we will be taking four weeks cover the topic of sharing your faith.
May 9—Luke 15 and sharing your faith
May 16—Sharing your faith
May 23—Sharing your faith
May 30—Sharing your faith

As usual we will be meeting at the Bouma's (270A Manchester Rd). A meal is provided before the study, so come hungry! Below is a picture from a recent house group.

Church Weekend Away-- 5th-7th of May
We'll be at Walmer this year. Unfortunately, all our spaces have been filled.

No Sunday Meeting on the 7th of May
Because of the weekend away there will be no Sunday Meeting. We will resume our normal meetings on the 14th of May.

Friday Prayer Meeting on the 12th of May
Please join us at the Cafe at 6:30 am. (that’s right, in the morning) for a for our monthly prayer meeting to pray over individual, community and world issues and concerns. We also take some time to eat some breakfast afterwards. Our monthly prayer meeting usually takes place on the first Friday of every month, but it has been moved due to the Weekend Away.

Baptism Service on the 21st of May
Richard Mills and Ambreen Shafiq will be baptized at our Sunday meeting (11:00), so please join us for this very special day. A meal will follow the service.

Film Night at Cafe Forever

On April 19th City of Peace hosted a film night where we watched a film called Arnas Children. The director of the film joined us in a discussion of the film afterwards to talk about the difficult issues of the Palestinian conflict and it's affects.
